In the years following the Second Vatican Council, many churches moved their tabernacles from the high altars of church sanctuaries. This was perceived by many as a way to transform a building from being the house of God to being the house of the people.
Bishop Robert Morlino once said “What can I do to help the souls entrusted to my care to become holy?” He believed that the Church was God's house not the house of the people.
At St. Louise, we also acknowledge that the Church is a house of God. We the people are here to worship and praise God in His house. The tabernacle being at the center, helps us to focus on Him.
